Tar Tar girls from West Pokot and Plateau Queens from Nyanza are the girls’ teams that will fight for the National glory in the National grand finale of the ongoing Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom National finals.
Tar Tar qualified for the finals after beating their opponents Arch Bishop Njenga from Western 2:0 in tough semifinals held today at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega County.
“This was a good game and it went our way. We are glad and very excited! Our ever supportive fans gave boosted our morale and the girls responded accordingly,” said Julius Natoka, Coach, Tar Tar girls.
Plateau Queens also booked a date in the grand finals after displaying a skillful match against Limuru Starlets wining 6:0 in regulation time.
‘We played very well today and won the semis with a big margin. We have a tough opponent in the finals but we will do our best. We are eying London and nothing is stopping us,” said Mercy Akinyi, top scorer, Plateau Queens.
Plateau Queens and Tar Tar girls pocketed KES 500,000 cash reward and will proceed to the grand finale set for Sunday 24th March where they will fight for KES 1M and opportunity to go to London for one week training camp and mentorship in April.
The boys semifinals will be played tomorrow (Saturday) where Mukumu Boys from Western will face Gor Mahia Youth FC from Nairobi as Kapenguria Heroes from West Pokot prepare to face Ombek Red Devils from Nyanza.
Safaricom has invested KES100 million towards the program, which includes KES10 million worth of prizes, as well as funds for renovation of select community, pitches through a legacy programme.
