Heroic welcome: Kapenguria Heroes Welcomed Heartily in West Pokot

Celebrations marred Makutano town in west Pokot County yesterday as Kapenguria Heroes arrived with the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom National Champions trophy.

The residence of West Pokot filled the streets chanting songs of victory and joy as the Heroes made a grand entry into Makutano town. Kapenguria Heroes won the Chapa Dimba National tournament after beating Gor Mahia Youth FC 3-0 in the finals held yesterday at Bukhungu stadium, Kakamega County.

Tar Tar girls from the same County also got a heroic welcome for being second best girls team in the same tournament. The girls lost to Plateau Queens in a post-match penalty shootout that ended 4-3 in favour of Plateau Queens after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The governor of West Pokot County, H.E Prof John Lonyangapuo was among the many resident of the county who came out in their numbers to welcome the boys and girls in a ceremony held at West Pokot County Government head offices.

“Today is a very important day for the residents of West Pokot County. The boys and the girls have put us in the national map in a very significant way. Thank you for turning the narrative of cattle rustling to football champions,” said Governor John Lonyangapuo.

Kapenguria Heroes won KES 1M and a trip to the UK for a one-week mentorship and training camp. While in London, they will get a chance to interact with the tournament’s Brand Ambassador Victor Wanyama, who is a fierce midfielder for English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur while in London.

Tar Tar girls on the other hand won KES 500,000 for being the second best girls team and another KES 100,000 for being the most discipline team in the tournament.
