Farmer’s Choice plans to expand its smokie vendor network from 50,000 to 150,000 vendors as it seeks to grow entrepreneurship opportunities for women and youth across the country. The company said the expansion will be implemented through its Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) initiative, which supports small-scale entrepreneurs by providing smokie vending trolleys and startup support.
The announcement was made during an International Women’s Day event held in Nairobi, where the company hosted more than 80 female smokie vendors to recognise their role in distributing affordable protein products within communities.
Under the programme, aspiring vendors receive fully equipped smokie vending trolleys at a subsidised cost of Sh10,000, enabling them to start and run small businesses.
Since the initiative was launched, Farmer’s Choice says it has supported more than 50,000 vendors across Kenya, creating income opportunities particularly for women and young people.
The planned expansion to 150,000 vendors is expected to strengthen the company’s last-mile distribution network while widening access to its products in urban and peri-urban areas.
